What is eLearning?

eLearning is the development of knowledge and skills through the use of information and communication technologies to support interactions for learning including interactions with content, learning activities, and with other people.

What is a blended course?

Blended/hybrid courses combine face-to-face and online delivery. One third of the course is face-to-face, while one third is online. The remaining third may be any combination of online or face-to-face.

What is face-to-face delivery?

Face-to-face delivery is a “traditional” lecture or seminar format is used without technology.

What is a fully online course?

Fully online courses means that students do not physically attend classes – all lectures and course activities are delivered online. This is achieved through various means such as multimedia presentations of course materials, online discussion forums, and interactive assignments/quizzes.

What does LMS mean?

LMS stands for Learning Management System. A LMS is a software application for the administration, documentation, tracking, and delivery of courses. York’s LMS is Moodle.

What is a web-enhanced course?

A web-enhanced course features face-to-face lecture delivery with learning supplemented by web materials, resources or activities. Web-enhanced courses will use a learning management system (LMS) such as Moodle to make lectures available online, provide resource links, online quizzes, discussion forums, etc. Usually face-to-face instruction time remains the same in these courses despite the addition of a web component.

What is Moodle?

Moodle is a free and open-source software that is York’s learning management system (LMS). “Moodle” stands for Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment – its many customizable management features and plug-ins allow instructors to design private websites for their courses.

What is mobile integration?

Mobile integration allows websites and course content to be accessed easily on mobile devices such as cellphones and tablets.

Great! Contact AMPD Computing to determine what kind of support you need while developing the materials for your course. We will help set up and oversee support from the AMPD eLearning Team. As your course development nears completion, we can assist with customized Moodle support and training for faculty members, teaching assistants and students.
